Lake Brunner Technology 2!

Today at the Lake Brunner School Technology, my amazing group did some more work on the wood shed. Solomon finished taking apart the rest of the ramp, and then Michael and myself, started cutting the pieces of wood that we got from the ramp the previous time. They were too big to fit in the shed so that's why I had to cut them down. While doing that Flynn was sorting out the nails into jars and Solomon was still taking apart the ramp. After me and Michael had finished cutting the wood we had to put it in the work shed. There is a beam on the inside of the shed and so we put the wood up on there because if we didn't the shed would be packed and you wouldn't be able to move around. Then after that we were just getting the nails out of the wood for safety reasons and that's what we did in Technology time. We did great work and the shed is looking fantastic!

Lake Brunner Technology!

On Thursday we did Technology at school, since we can't do technology at Grey High because of the virus that shall not be named, we decided to make our own one up at school. So at the start of the day Nic write three groups on the board and we got to chose which one we wanted to do. I chose the environment group because I love working and helping out around the school. My group is Flynn, Solomon, Michael and myself. My group doesn't do anything else we just do gardening and we make the new wood shed which is cool. So in the first block we did gardening with the other environment group and we got a lot of good work done, we pulled out heaps of weeds and tidied up a bit which was needed and it was amazing. In the second block of Technology me and my awesome group started planning the wood shed and working in the wood shed. We have a great plan to make it as great as it can be!

Te Kinga's fun day out!

Yesterday the Te Kinga class went into the bush to do some fun activities. First we walked down to to the start of the Velinski track. I was walking with Leo, Solomon and Flynn. The track was really awesome until... We had lost someone! So we had to go back up the track. And Nic sent me and Zaine to run up the track and we couldn't find her. So we went up to the top of the track where the seat was and saw Kaelyn lying on the seat. She was freezing cold! The day before we were learning first aid and one of the ones we learnt about was hypothermia. My group had Kaelyn, Leo and me. So me and Leo had to help her by getting her warm and we failed BADLY! After that we went over to the Swing Bridge walk to check the traps. There was nothing in them but it was still fun. After we checked the traps we went to the lake side and we made a tent using a tarp. When we finished building the tent Alice tipped water on it to see if it was strong enough. They did the other group first and theirs somehow stayed up. Then ours was next and... IT FELL! But the good thing is I didn't get one drop of water on me. When that was done we made fires. Me and Leo gathered the resources and Kaelyn made the fire. Our fire didn't go to plan but we just joined someone elses and we made s'mores and they were delicious. That was the end of our amazing day and I had so much fun.

History of Moana

On Tuesday last week Kevin Klempel came into our class and taught us about the history of Moana and I got lots of facts. Here is some of them:

  • It took 30 days to get to Christchurch from Moana because they didn't have cars.
  • There were lots of swamps in Moana back then.
  • People from Christchurch started coming in the 1940's and most of them were fishermen.
  • The Arnold Dam was built because power was getting used more.
  • At the bottom of Lake Brunner there were lots of sawdust from the sawmill.
  • The Arnold dam was built by the Greymouth power board.
Did you learn something about the facts that I have here?

Topic Task.

For Topic last week we did three activities and I'm going to talk about the ones I enjoyed. First we did people smart. In people smart we had to complete a challenge and in that challenge we had to get cups that were filled with water onto a tray only using one leg and one hand. It took our group a while to figure it out but we ended up getting the hang of it. The next challenge we did was get as much water as we could into the bucket. We had a shovel and a bucket. So we went to the bottom of a hill and dug holes, and then stomped on the edges of the holes so that the water would flow through. Then we got heaps of water in the holes and used cups to get the water and fill the bucket. This challenge was very fun.

What did you do for your Topic?

Topic

In our topic we are learning about water. We had to do three topic activities spread throughout the week but i'm only going to talk about the ones I enjoyed doing. My group did the body smart and in the body smart we had to make up a dance to the song 6 months in a leaky boat. The song was about the early settlers coming to New Zealand. We had to share our dance to the other groups and it went well. The next activity was the book smart. When you do the book smart you read out of the journal and I learnt that water vapour is gas and when it gets cooler it turns back into water, that is called condensation. Then we did an experiment and in the experiment we tipped water onto the concrete and we saw how it started disappearing because of the sun.
